In our previous article, water stone We have examined it, but today's article will focus on mold. In addition to limescale, mold can also make our lives miserable, as it is not only aesthetically unsightly, but also dangerous.
What is mold?
Molds are a group of multicellular fungi called hyphae that form a coating of various colors on various surfaces (especially organic materials). These fungi break down organic materials, which results in food spoilage. Molds found on buildings can weaken the structural elements of the building.
What causes mold growth?
The most common cause of mold growth is condensation on the walls. High humidity is not as much of a problem during the summer months, as the air in the apartment moves more (due to frequent ventilation) than in the winter months. However, in winter, we do not ventilate our apartment very often, so the concrete and furniture inside the closed walls begin to evaporate. Molds reproduce with spores between 15-30 degrees Celsius.
Another common cause of mold growth is defects in the building's structural elements.
Is it dangerous to human health?
Unfortunately, yes. Molds reproduce by producing spores that can cause allergic reactions and respiratory problems when released into the air. Black mold is the most dangerous of all molds, as it not only releases its allergenic spores into the air, but also toxins that can cause upper respiratory tract bleeding.
What should we do if we encounter mold in our home?
By scraping the mold off the wall surface, with chemicals or it must be removed by painting. Then we need to carry out a thorough cleaning to remove the scattered spores. Unfortunately, this only provides a short-term solution, if we want to say goodbye to moldy walls forever, then we definitely need to eliminate the root cause! If we think that the humidity in our home is appropriate, that cannot be the root cause of the mold, then unfortunately the problem may be with the structural elements of the building.
How can we prevent it?
- The biggest enemy of mold is free flowing air, so we need to ventilate as often as possible for effective prevention!
- If you want to avoid mold, get a humidity meter to check the humidity in your home. The ideal humidity is between 50-551%, if it is higher than this, ventilate or use air conditioning!
- It is common to encounter construction errors that cause mold, so make sure your home is properly insulated!
- Let's get an automatic ventilation system or air conditioning!
- When painting, use anti-mold paint to prevent mold and algae stains from forming on the wall. These special paints create a mold-resistant coating that prevents algae and mold from adhering.
It is therefore worth keeping your eyes open when it comes to mold, as it can have a detrimental effect on your health and the structural integrity of your home. Ventilate frequently and pay attention to the warning signs!
