Three settlements – Szőlős, Háros, and Tököl – were temporarily established here, of which Tököl can be considered the predecessor of today's Halásztelek. Today, of the three conquering settlements, only Tököl exists independently, while Háros has become a district of the united Budapest – although the latter is now located in the 22nd district.

The name Halásztelek itself first appeared around 1700. For a long time, the settlement was not independent, but was considered a suburb of Tököl. Its official name was Herminamajor, after the daughter of the landowner Mór Wahrmann. Much later, after the two world wars, an independent settlement was established here in 1950 under the name Herminatelep, which after one name was given a new name: from 1951 onwards it has been called Halásztelek.

The settlement of Halásztelek received city status in 2008. The entire settlement has retained its garden-town charm to this day, with most residents living in single-storey houses.
